PinkWood manufactures premium I-joists, under the trade name "PKjoists". They are primary used as part of the floor systems in residential and commercial housing projects. PKjoists are manufactured to precise tolerances on high-speed equipment with integrated coating technology to yield the best possible physical properties and to maximize strength. Our I-joists will resist warping, crowning and shrinking. Our residential joists are available in six series ranging in depths of 9.5" up to 24", and are manufactured in long lengths up to 58'. Our PKI Series are manufactured with either 2x3 (PKI 10, 20, 23) or 2x4 (PKI 35+, 40, 50) flanges with specific proprietary lumber grade.
Our PKjoists are available in three categories:
1. Standard I-Joists
Our Standard joist has a pink protective coating only on the ends. The purpose of the end coating is to protect the joist against moisture penetration.
2. Fire Rated Assembly for Unfinished Basements (PKjoists plus WEBshield)
Pinkwood’s FRI Assembly, PKjoist plus WEBshield, was designed to provide significant fire protection to unfinished basements. Pinkwood’s Assembly has been evaluated by CCMC and has demonstrated a time-to-failure in a fire equivalent to exposed 2 x 10 lumber joists. The FRI assembly meets the intent of Article 22.214.171.124.10. of the NBC.
3. Flame Spread Rated I-Joists
We refer to our Flame Spread Rated joists as "SAFEJoist" because they are so much less susceptible to ignition. Our SAFEjoists are protected with intumescent Fire Rated Coating. These joists have tan coloured coating on the web, and a pink protective coating on the ends. Our Fire Rated series are available in two performance levels: Class A and Class B.
The Class A I-joists have a web with flame spread rating of 25 or less. These joists take approximately 5 times as long to burn through as bare, unprotected joists.
The Class B I-joists have a web with a flame spread rating from 26 to 75. These joists take approximately 2.5 times as long to burn through as unprotected joists.
