PinkWood manufactures and markets wood I-joists for use in residential housing and in commercial buildings. Our production facility is located in Calgary, and is the most recent installation in North America. The plant was designed and built by Lewis & Clark Machine Inc. of Hines, Oregon. It is the only I-joist plant in North America specifically designed with the ability to manufacture joists, which are coated with a fire resistant coating during the manufacturing process. This unique feature enables PinkWood to produce fire rated joists at a much lower cost than any other joist manufacturer.
Our company is dedicated to providing our customers with exceptional service and products that meet the highest possible standard of quality.
We are able to produce both the standard, unprotected joist and a coated, fire rated joist at our facility. The web of our fire rated joist, which we call "SAFEjoist", is coated with intumescent fire rated coating (called PKShield), which makes the joist so much less susceptible to fire. This coating when applied to the joists also provides protection against weathering during the construction process, and is treated with a broad spectrum fungicide.
We offer our customers a complete array of joists in depths from 9.5" to 24", in three categories:
- Standard, uncoated
- 2012 IRC, Section R501.3 or 2015 IRC, Section R302.13 Compliant
- Class A and Class B, Fire Rated (SAFEjoist)
Why the Name is "PinkWood"?
PinkWood entered into an Agreement with the Women's Breast Cancer Foundation whereby the company donates to their "Search for a Cure" based on the amount of the Fire Rated Coating is processed in our operations. The Foundation in turn has authorized our company to use their Pink Ribbon Logo.
Our joists use a distinctive pink coating to protect the ends of the joists against moisture and cracking. The intumescent Fire Rated Coating applied to the web is tan in color.
